What To Do When You’re Denied Boarding?

What steps should you take when you’re denied boarding on your flight?

What should you do if you’re denied boarding?

In recent days, with the increase in no. of people travelling by air and with the influx of no. of airlines into our Aviation Industry, denied boarding has become very frequent. Generally, airlines allow passengers to book their seats beyond availability. Airlines practice this procedure to avoid operating the flight with unoccupied seats. When this process recurs, it creates great discomfort among the passengers, as it happens with no prior notice, and leaves them stranded.

As the number of such cases is increasing, refund.me India (refundme.in) is determined to help flyers get their compensation for denied boarding.

Are You Eligible For Compensation?

First and foremost, you need to figure out whether you are eligible to claim compensation from the airline on account of denied boarding, which stands true if you meet the following conditions:

  • If you are holding confirmed ticket at the time of boarding
  • If you are present at the time of boarding as specified by the airline

What Are The Ways In Which Airlines Can Compensate?

Airlines in India are liable to refund the booking amount to the passengers who have been denied boarding.

  • Airlines can compensate by informing the passengers about the over-booking in advance and arrange an alternate flight to be departed within an hour of the originally booked flight.
  • Airlines can also ask passengers to voluntarily give away their seat(s) in return of any other benefits mutually decided between both the parties.

How Much You Can Claim?

Every Denied Boarding claim can be compensated in various capacities, in monetary form or in kind. According to the rules defined for Civil Aviation in India, following compensation can be claimed in case of denied boarding:

  • An amount equal to 200 % of the booked one-way fare plus airline fuel charge, subject to a maximum of INR 10,000/- in case the alternate flight is scheduled to depart within 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the originally booked flight.
  • An amount equal to 400 % of the booked one-way fare plus airline fuel charge, subject to a maximum of INR 20,000/- in case the alternate flight is scheduled to depart after more than 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the originally booked flight.
  • You may also choose to either voluntary give up your seat at the time of being notified of the over-booking in exchange for non-monetary benefits which the airline may provide at its own discretion.
